Eye Protecting Mango Dream Smoothie

June 29th, 2016

Mangos are one of my all-time favorite fruits and when mango and spinach are combined in a smoothie, the bodys ability to absorb their antioxidants, particularly lutein and xanthein, TRIPLES!

This is good news since together these nutrients reduce the risk of cataracts by 72 percent and lower the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by 67 percent.

Hows that for a smart smoothie breakfast?

Makes 2 Servings:

  • 2 cups fresh spinach, washed
  • 1 banana, frozen (I cut mine into chunks before I freeze them)
  • 1 cup peeled and chopped mango
  • 6 natural almonds
  • 1 cup fat free soy or rice milk
  • 1 cup fat free vanilla yogurt

Combine everything in a blender (I recommend Vita-mix) and blend til smooth.

In case youre worried about the bitterness of the spinach, you wont even notice it since the delicious, sweet mango and ripe banana are the most powerful flavors in this drink.

Heres why I recommend Vita-Mix

Vita-Mix & Phytonutrients

If you know me at all, you know there is one kitchen appliance I am passionate about my Vita-mix blender!  Yes, its at the top of my Couldnt Live Without list and yes, youre going to see a plug for it on every smoothie recipe I write because using a Vita-mix blender gives your smoothies much more nutritional value than any ordinary blender possibly can!  And because I care about YOUR health!

Heres the skinny Vita-Mix processing breaks open the cell walls to release maximum nutrition from whole foods, more than you can get any other way.

Vita-mix gives you verything youd want from a blender and more!  No question about it the Vita-Mix blender is superior to anything else on the market and well worth the investment!

This recipe is interesting.

Wondering if you can use skim or 1% milk instead of the soy or rice

Yes, absolutely. Use whichever type of milk you prefer and I know youll love the outcome. This is one delicious smoothie!

Sorry Ronnie, but when I was doing that on my blog posts I found I didnt have time for anything else. You can always figure it out yourself by going to http://nutritiondata.self.com. Create an account and they have a tool that will allow you to calculate the calories/fat/nutrition in your recipes. Its a great resource.

Hi Kathy, its yummy, isnt it!!! I know a lot of people are surprised at how delicious it is, but its absolutely one of my favorite smoothies and so healthy for us too! The recipe makes 2 servings and Ive edited the post to indicate that. Thanks for pointing it out to me that I missed it.

Pretty bland nothing interesting about it. I think it needs some acid orange or lime maybe?

I just found this recipe from a google search for mango spinach smoothie. I would recommend this smoothie to anyone who loves delicious food.

I have a long list of green smoothies, but none of them require mangoes and I needed to use some mangoes that were starting to get long in the tooth. Now Ive added this dream smoothie to my list. (I used 1% organic milk, BTW.) Cheers!
